First: Buy bar oil. This didn't come with any.

Anyway, we're building a house in the forest and saved ourselves a pretty penny, having the knocked down trees left behind. We plan to use some for firewood and others for nurse logs. Using the fastest speed and cutting through the thickest trees this thing will get very warm, haven't had it overheat on me yet. I'm not in a rush, so I knocked it down to the middle speed and it goes much further before getting hot. I suspect sending it down to eco will allow it to run for as long as my 7.5 amp hour battery will last.

I suspect my work will be using the fastest speed to make quick work of the tree limbs. I can readily work through dozens of those and it barely breaks a sweat, probably even cutting the trunk away from the exposed roots. Then for the majority of the cuts, I'll just use the medium speed or eco speed.

The time penalty doesn't seem that bad, especially since it saves me from having to buy larger batteries or recharging them as fast.

For my application this chainsaw works very well. If you're looking for something that will help you thin a forest in record time, stick with gas, if nothing else refilling a tank in the middle of nowhere will be far easier and cheaper than hauling a bunch of batteries.

But if you're living on several acres with more tree than you have ideas, and you have a little bit of patience to work within the limitations of this tool, then I recommend it.

Yes, you can get a better gas chainsaw for the price. But recall the other benefits, the avoidance of having to visit a gas station for fuel and ridiculously simplified maintenance. If you're already bought into the EGO ecosystem, then it makes use of the chargers and batteries, you already own.

This saw is absolutely amazing. I’ve cut oak whose diameter is larger than the length of the saw and the saw didn’t hang up.

Saw really cuts great, powerful and easy to handle. Using the ARC 8AH Batteries. The speed set feature I thought would be worthless, turned out to be great. What I found is a lower chain speed actually cut through certain logs faster (probably from preventing the teeth from bouncing over the wood). I had no trouble with the batteries overheating. This was probably due by having the chain properly sharpen and not forcing saw (very little downward pressure needed).

I do like the saw. It had plenty of power,and with a new chain, it cut right through 18” red oak rounds. But I would say , after about 15 minutes of continuous use the 10 ah battery did overheat. I popped in another 10 ah battery and it happened again. I have the 18” saw also, and I don’t have the same problems,and that’s using the same 10 ah batteries. Any feedback on why the batteries overheat would be appreciated…

I just got done cutting down a 20" choke cherry. I used the CS2000 to cut the tongue and groove notch. Then I finished felling with a CS1800. Both saws performed admirably.
THEN I started cutting up the trunk with the CSX5000; and I didn't get very far before the 12ah battery overheated. So I swapped it out with the 8ah battery that came with the saw.
I didn't get very far when the saw itself overheated!
It was now out of commission. Luckily I had the 2000 with me to finish up the trunk; although still overheating the battery.
